I’m so excited to have received this commission to paint a pet portrait for a friend. In life these two beautiful dogs, Bailey & Chorley, were best friends and always side-by-side. I painted Chorley’s picture last year and now I will paint Bailey’s, so they can sit side-by-side again.

‘I do something that makes people present their best selves to me wherever I go’ (Jim Carrey). As an essential worker it was great to get back to working with my clients yesterday. For my clients, the world disappears when they paint. Though they may not talk, their souls light up and their eyes shine. #lovewhatyoudo #arttherapy #ndis #ndisprovider #autism #autismawareness #whatboxcreative #melbourne
I have produced some design ideas for the possible mural in Oakleigh. The church design is very representative of the Greek community and it also has the chapel included. This design is just adapted from a stock image. We may prefer an image that is more universally accessible and representative of the multicultural world in which we live. Please let me know your thoughts on the idea at www.oakleighprecinctmural.com

Check the new page on my website showcasing an example of the type of work to expect. I’m producing many paintings for free – in an attempt to brighten this world and to repay the support many have shown me. Some paintings will be priced fairly based on time, skill and quality of input etc, others I’ll ask people to pay what they can.

If people knew how hard I worked to get my mastery, it wouldn’t seem so wonderful at all.Michelangelo
Don’t be afraid, don’t be daunted, just do your jobElizabeth Gilbert
It’s easy to begin to lose our minds in today’s situation. Not since WW2 have things been so drastic. It is true the situation is of course very serious, many have died and many more will also get sick and die without the basic rights and treatments they thought they would be afforded.
The media is essential in communicating what we must know and what is expected of us. However, it also contributes to the maelstrom of negative news and painful images we are exposed to on a daily basis. It can be hard to find motivation let alone inspiration,
I, like many around the globe, have lost their business and income. By Friday 13th of March I had lost 30% of my clients, by midday on Monday they had all gone. All cancelled. Some projects were 4 months in the making – cancelled in a couple of sentences in an email. Many of my customers have generously given me some cash, my property manager has just organised a rent reduction for me, my power company has requested government support to cover my utilities bill. And I do not get government support in Au. because I am a Kiwi. Despite this I feel very blessed and humbled by the kind efforts and donations of those around me.
Olé to you none the less for just having the sheer human love and stubbornness to keep showing upElizabeth Gilbert
Like many I have wondered what is it I am to do? What now? How can I practice my art? For me, process has always proceeded outcome. Although I am a professional artist now, after art school in London, I trained to be a chef. Whether I was running a kitchen in a high-end restaurant or painting a large public mural, preparation and process have always come first; believing that the outcome will take care of itself.

In this pandemic please support local businesses; the little guys, the sole traders, your kids after school maths tutor, their gym class teachers, their dance teachers, and their art teacher. Spare a thought for these people who have lost their incomes and whose businesses have been destroyed.
I too believe we need to control the spread of the virus. But unlike those businesses that employ people, sole traders and art teachers like myself do not benefit from the government’s stimulus package hand-outs.
In this situation, I have lost all my revenue streams. Large events and classes have been cancelled by councils and libraries, NDIS clients have suspended all sessions, and art classes are continually being cancelled.
Additionally, I now face two weeks isolation upon my return to Australia; I am currently visiting home in Queenstown, New Zealand.
Now I cannot teach face-to-face. I cannot earn money and my business is facing total collapse – I cannot pay my rent, pay bills, buy food or other essential items or services.
I need your help. If you feel my work has benefited you, your child, or our community, please support me to be able get through these tough times, and so I can continue to do my work in our community.
Give what you can. In exchange for generosity you will receive an original piece of artwork produced by me.

A quick and simplified example of sketching your subject and painting it quickly, without too much thought.
You want to get rid of the white canvas as quickly as you can, as white makes it hard to balance the colours.
You need to look for the medium or basic colour of the subject; shading, blending, and detail will be added afterwards.
With bookings coming in and available spaces disappearing fast, book now to reserve your child’s space in South-East Melbourne’s best art school. For more information and to book, please visit https://whatboxcreative.org/index.php/art-classes/ or call Andrew on 0490765618

Did you know WhatBox Creative art lessons are for adults as well?
It was great news to see this morning, when I opened my emails, that I have received another booking for a group of 20 adults wanting an introduction to acrylic painting. If you, or maybe you think your workplace, would like to learn send me a message or call 0490765618.
Today will be amazing, this year will be epic!
What other creative adventures can I get into today? Shortly I am heading off to finish the McGregor Gardens mural, then a large group of care-home residents will enjoy a diversional therapy art session, before ultimately ending my teaching day with a private art class at my studio.
Whatever you are doing today, give it everything you’ve got; make it count, and make someone else smile.
